About
Marcius Galan was born in Indianapolis (USA), lives and works in São Paulo. He graduated in Visual Arts from FAAP, São Paulo in 1997. In 2003, he was awarded a residency of six months in Cité des Arts in Paris and was a resident at the Art Institute of Chicago, in 2004. Galan won the 3rd edition of the PIPA Prize in 2012 and participated at the Gasworks Residency Programme, London, in 2013. Marcius Galan has participated in group exhibitions in renowned galleries, institutions and biennials in Brazil and abroad. In his work, Galan explores the perception of space and objects relating to it, by means of an expanded practice which includes installation, sculpture, photography and video. He borrows geometry to deconstruct codes associated with the ideas of precision and organization, delivering constructions rigorously executed, where the works become material experimentations which interrogate the functions, limits and borders of space as well as the socio-political systems where these are rooted.
