Lumens Annual Programme of Film, Sound, and Visual Art

About

Lumens annual programme of film, sound, and visual art returns for a seventh year of exceptional performances, installations, presentations, and screenings. Showcasing an international blend of established work and new commissions, the programme reflects the broad range of projects that Lumen engages with throughout the year. New partnerships for 2008 have created fresh opportunities to explore diverse approaches to the relationship between visual and sonic artforms, exemplified by Loud Objects' truly innovative take on live audio-visual performance. We are delighted to be hosting a number of exclusive performances and screenings, not least the first performance of Mira Calix's new live soundtrack (commissioned by Opera North) to Augusto Contento's intriguing window into modern Brazilian life, 'Onibus'. Lumen has also commissioned brand new site-specific works for Evolution (by Peter Cusack and Iris Garrelfs), and the Composure series of HD shorts will receive its first public screening. Alongside Greg Kurcewicz's ever-popular Compendium strand, the programme features two of Michaela Grill's collaborative projects (Monroc with Martin Siewert, and a live performance with Giuseppe Ielasi), bridging the daytime and evening sessions on 24 May. The closing performance will see the unmissable Fernando Corona, aka Murcof, with visual collaborators XX+XY in Leeds Town Hall's stunning Victoria Hall — a fitting venue for his evocative, electronic symphonies.
