Eva Mitera, Works on Paper
Exhibition Curator Dr Shih Mei Lee
Works on Paper exhibition presents watercolours created by artist Eva Mitera, graduate of the University of Edinburgh, participant of the X Florence Biennale. Oil paintings and watercolours are two mediums Eva concentrates her artistic practice. Paintings principally focused on the theme of landscape, natural and metotological phenomena, images alternately abstract and realistic with evocations of motif. In Eva’s artistic practice two mediums of oil painting and watercolour certainly interrelate but watercolours are never studies for paintings, there completely independent, its kind of an exchange, not in the sense of studies, but rather in that of a translation from one medium into another. Equally important as the motif is the process of creating, unpredictability of the result that is an important factor in the technique of painting in watercolour. Using rich colours that watercolour can offer, Eva allows the colours to blend across the paper to emphasize rich bright hues and brush stokes. In her explorations and experiments of the watercolour medium she also adds dry pastel, crayons and ink to achieve impressions of reality and the imaginary landscapes, a sensation of radiant energy and controlled frenzy.
