About

TALK DESCRIPTION
Can an art practice engage with objects as living things? In this talk, Lindsay Sekulowicz will focus on her practice based doctoral study at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, where she is working with biocultural collections from the Northwest Amazon. Lindsay will discuss the role of drawing as a research methodology, knowledge gained through making and objects, and the role of the artist working within the archive and with ethnographic belongings. Colour and materials are important in Lindsay’s practice, from working with raw pigments from earth/plant sources to new colour charts and studies on bioluminescent fungi.

Guest Series Format: We will be joined by guests from different fields: art, ethnobotany, anatomy, and photography each of whom is committed to drawing. The format for the Guest Series will be for each guest to give a talk about how drawing relates to their own work and field, then at a later date they will lead a day long drawing workshop based on their practice.
