The work was partly commissioned by Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières. Illustrations from this series have been published in Harper's (USA), The Guardian and Port (UK), Le Monde Diplomatique (Germany), Internazionale (Italy) and Annabelle (Switzerland).
A portfolio of drawings documenting the circumstances of Syrians the artist met in Domiz refugee camp (Iraqi Kurdistan), became the overall winner of the World Illustration Award 2015 and was exhibited at Somerset House in London.
On display will be prints of finished illustrations alongside original pencil drawings and rough sketches.
At the opening of the exhibition (Wednesday, 6 December, 6:00-8:00 pm) there will be a brief Q&A hosted by John L. Walters, the editor of Eye Magazine. Participants will be Catherine Thomé (Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières), Corinne Pearlman (Myriad Editions) and Olivier Kugler.
A collection of 80-pages with drawings from this project was just published as a book in Germany under the title DEM KRIEG ENTRONNEN: https://www.editionmoderne.ch/de/80/Kugler/312/dem-krieg-entronnen.html
In June 2018 ESCAPING WARS AND WAVES, an English edition of the book, wil be published in the UK by Myriad Editions/New Internationalist.
All of the exhibited artwork will be for sale. Half of the profits will be donated to Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières.
