Erasures, Washes, and Memory

My work is informed by my interest in natural processes particularly in the relationship between ourselves and nature, and the tension between being part of it and being outside of it. I work in a way that the material is only slightly controlled allowing for accidents, discoveries, and an ongoing conversation between myself, the material, and what’s appearing on the canvas or paper. I’m looking for something inevitable where my hand is both present and absent. Frequently, I introduce marks and collage elements whose intentionality disrupts the happenstance of their fluid elements. Ultimately, I’m looking for works that depend on their transcendence in the tension between beauty and flaw, between grand ambition and simple means.
