The songs, pieces and pictures have been created together, drawing on each other for inspiration. The artist will be playing live in the gallery, among the paintings that the music sets out to describe. Giles Hayter's music is full of rhythm, with strong chords and soaring melodies. The base is a blues drive with the flexible harmonies of the piano. The songs are finely crafted with great care, in the search for depth and texture. The piano combines clear left-hand stride rhythm and harmony with complex right-hand syncopations in two, three and five time. The lyrics are colourful and vigorous, with a careful balance struck between the sounds of the words and their meaning. Giles Hayter's art is vigorous, dynamic and inventive. Strong colours and shapes mix in layered textures, creating abstract pictures full of rhythm. The paintings employ a variety of tools and techniques - a pendulum, syringes, 3D contours, turntables, flowing liquid, pins, cocktail sticks, CDs, gaffa tape and so on... The purpose of all of these is the generation of movement and mix of colour. Giles Hayter paints, teaches maths and writes and produces music in London.
