ArtCan, an arts organisation enabling artists to find their voices and sustain their practice, and D-Contemporary, a Mayfair exhibition space and gallery showcasing established artists and the best emerging talent, present ENCOUNTERS showcasing 30 works by 14 ArtCan artists.

About

The exhibition is curated by ArtCan artist, RachelMaggart, and D-Contemporary Gallery Manager, Amina Mona, with support from Kate Enters, ArtCan Founder & Director, and Will Coups, D-Contemporary Gallery Coordinator.

ENCOUNTERS will feature a collection of 2-dimensional works by artists working in a variety of media – oil, acrylic, ink, graphite, oak and aluminium. The exhibition foregrounds the partnership of ArtCan and D-Contemporary, bringing together arts and business communities around themes of creative dialogue.

Participating artists include: Emma Franc, Anna-Louise Felstead, Anthony Grieveson, Arturo Garcia de las Heras, Evelyn Jean, Georgia Peskett, Irene Raspollini, Jean Gillespie, Jess De Zilva, Kerry Zacharia, Nick Grindrod, Pernilla Iggstrom, Teresa Zerafa Byrne and Nina Archer.

ENCOUNTERS is driven conceptually by 3 interwoven themes:
- D-Contemporary as a conduit for ideas exchange through its gallery as a hub for networks of Strategy International professionals.
- Art as a mode of celebrating different perspectives through its materiality and thematic content.
- Arts and business sectors joining up to expand audiences for emerging artists.

The works in the show employ diptych constructions, multiple views of the same scene and subjects in built and natural environments, to evoke the notion of an encounter. They are characterised by an innovative use of material and aesthetic, without looking for perfection in technique. Some contain socio-political undertones, while others reference conventions in art history.
