About

Enclosures features Oliver Bancroft, Leah Clements, Adam King, Alex Pearl and The Cult of RAMM:àŽ£LL:ZàŽ£àŽ£. Each artist will set the parameters of his or her own 'enclosure' for a moving image work within a physical installation and a specific psychic environment, allowing the viewer a more layered experience. Oliver Bancroft's film works are characterised by the absence of digital media; in Enclosures, he presents the black and white film 'Music for a while', featuring the soprano Moira Johnson. Goldsmiths graduate Leah Clements presents the work 'That High End Has Just Been Extended', experienced by the viewer over a period of 30 minutes, where something specific will happen. In 'Fairy Winged Bombers', Adam King's first animation-based installation, the artist creates a viewing chamber-cum-bomb shelter for a piece which explores themes of identity and conflict within a pastoral environment under siege. The Cult of RAMM:àŽ£LL:ZàŽ£àŽ£ (the recently deceased 1980's nasal rapper, graffiti artist, and Gothic Futurist Ikonoklast Panzerism philosopher, AKA 'The Equation') will present their video ritual installation 'The Sub-Nasal Chamber', a chapter from The Book of Bitumen. Alex Pearl's haunting and humorous films use readily available materials and software to create the equivalent of a sketch or doodle, an initial throwaway idea made visible. In his latest work, two video machines and some old bits of furniture present the heroic crossing of the Niagara Gorge by Blondin on a tightrope. The autumn programme at CANAL also features the exhibition I apologize for the crudity of this model, a physical and virtual installation by Slade graduates Mollie A King and Patrick White (6-29 November) and Apartment (Style Cruise) a survey of young cutting edge craft and design in the UK (4 December-21 January). CANAL is located on the Haggerston Riviera, a loose association of venues on the canal at Haggerston - www.facebook.com/haggerstonriviera. Christmas on the Riviera will feature a series of magical events, including a night of candlelight and choirs, street markets and much more.
