Oxford University’s EMPRES Collective take over the gallery once more to present innovative performances and installations that explore boundaries between music, sound and technology.
About
They are joined by celebrated electroacoustic composer Trevor Wishart and performance artist Satya Hindula.
Trevor Wishart will give both a lecture and performance. Wishart creates music with his own voice, for professional groups, or in imaginary worlds conjured up in the studio. His most well-known works include The VOX Cycle, Red Bird, Tongues Of Fire, Two Women, Imago and Globalalia, and pieces have been commissioned by the Paris Biennale, Massachussets Council for the Arts and Humanities, the DAAD in Berlin, the French Ministry of Culture and the BBC Proms.
We also welcome Satya Hinduja to the Piper Gallery for a performance which is both sound installation and group meditation. Her intentions lie in elevating the deep subconscious through her meditative project ‘Alchemic Sonic Environment’, an immersive nomadic spatial sound system that caters to all of the body’s senses. The experience combines the spiritual with the scientific and each multisensory site-specific performance is carefully tailored to fit the audience’s needs by tuning a range of variables; from structure to smell, light temperature, sound and space.
There will also be performances from the EMPRES Synth Ensemble, the Oxford music graduate and undergraduate community and much more!
