In the “Empathic Tribunal“ group exhibition at SomoS, members of the Berlin artist group “DIE KETTE“ (“the chain”) come together for the first time, intimately sharing a body of work that is focused on the implications of their own encounters.
About
The group forms and presents their first exhibition as a way to cast a dynamic, sensitive gaze on today’s society and its inhabitants. Though the members’ themes are varied, the shared value and respect for Berlin’s long history of artist collectives, salons and clubs cohesively connects them together, just like a chain. “DIE KETTE” seeks to rejuvenate this history, drawing upon traditions of painting, drawing, photography, comics, sculpture, installation, and performance. In fact, its members all share that their practice that is not only focused on the fine arts, but also its surrounding disciplines: theatre, film, acting, event design, music and literature. With a historical focus and interdisciplinary methods at hand, the works presented during the “Empathetic Tribunal” group exhibition are united by a value for sub-, club-, and pop culture.
In the “Empathic Tribunal” group exhibition, it is the question of what happens when artists encounter one another that becomes answered. Presenting a diverse mosaic of art, the exhibition forms a platform in which queer, trans and feminist ideas may converge with political and aesthetic impulses, all pieced together in a contemporary narrative of urban life. This November at SomoS, the birth of the dynamic yet collaborative artist-group “DIE KETTE” thus comes under the spotlight during the “Empathic Tribunal” group exhibition.
