The end of the photobook is approaching. Or is it already long dead? In fact, it is experiencing an existential crisis. Countless releases by major publishers and small presses, self-published volumes and print-ondemand products are on display at an ever-increasing (and increasingly indistinguishable) number of photo and book fairs. The book market has long been oversaturated by an impossible-to-ignore sea of publications. Around the world, new digital technologies have created new means of production, communication and distribution. Digitalization has thus changed not just our consumer habits, but has also made us active producers of online images. It is time for a fundamental reconsideration, innovative ideas, and a fresh start – Photobook: RESET, curated by Bruno Ceschel in collaboration with C/O Berlin, inspires a radical new take on the topic and investigates the current and future relevance, form, and sharing of photobooks.
