About
Paint Play describes a recurring theme in Emma-Leone's portraiture where the paint is intrinsically part of the subject matter,
“I paint ‘faces’, although I like to say I paint ‘expressions’; not just what is on the aesthetic surface but the dialogue of what’s underneath. The internal dialogue vs. the external portrayal. I am not interested in painting ‘bowls of fruit’ but living, breathing, expressive human beings. “Give me something gritty, something real. Show me!”
Through this practice the individual expressive core of a character is revealed, in this moment this is who they are. You sense right off that you might know these people, or want to get to know them.
In this curated exhibition, Graham Hunter and Emma-Leone have selected a depth of work, faces,
all female, that illustrate her strengths in depth. The work is at times sensitive, fun, reflective and defiant. Bring your friends there will be lots to talk about.
All works for sale.
