Emma Charlton is a British contemporary artist who lives in London. Her work explores nature, sound, energy, the physical body and emotional frequencies. Her paintings hold something timeless, something sacred; ethereal, pulsing, expanding.
About
Emma’s latest solo exhibition, named simply ‘Emma’ because all of the paintings presented come from a feeling of self. The only way she knows how to paint.
Emma has never studied art and rarely has conscious thoughts about what she should paint. Her work is sometimes channelled through visions or images that sit at the front of her mind, but usually she takes to canvas and moves until the piece feels complete. This year she has worked on paintings simultaneously; learning about patience, time and space through the oils she has been working with. She speaks of having a relationship with paint for the first time in her life and feels that it is responding to her.
“To feel, this is the point. So the story, the name and the opinion doesn’t really matter. Come and be with the paintings, they will make you feel something or maybe nothing, but even nothing is something”.
