About
We Are The People We Have Been Waiting For is the third part of a trilogy, which follows Orange House Action Clinic (2015, S1, Portland, US) and First Water to Tripoli (2014, Jupiter Woods, London, UK). In the artist’s ongoing research and exhibition making, a displacement of syntax, of both objects and language, operates to set forth the environment surrounding us.
By taking everyday subliminal surfaces and utterances out of their typical scenes, we are confronted with the associations and actions that underlie the articles, facades and expectations that mediate life in a globally connected, yet specifically Western, capital city. Rather than having an instant reaction to the processes that certain aesthetics, objects, and vernaculars are representational of, we are urged to move beyond our immediate perceptions and begin to engage with how these often overlooked intricacies actually operate within the endemic processes that they represent.
Hopefully, by moving beyond an assumption, association, or prescription, we are better equipped to understand the city, our will, and our place within its interconnected composition.
