Emergence showcases a selected range of up-and-coming young artists from the Respond Academy, an alternative education provider based in St. Leonards-on-sea. The show also acts as part of the end goal for the students on their journey into becoming professional artists.
About
Emergence showcases raw uninhibited and often unshackled talents from the Respond Academy students. The show is a collaboration between Murmurations gallery and the students to help them learn the processes needed to go from the spark of creativity, through the making process, the self-analysis critical process and the exhibition display process. The works on display are exciting, often naïve and unschooled in nature but highlights snip bits of life for these youngsters who have all come to the Respond Academy as the last resort as they have been excluded or alienated from mainstream education/society. Respond academy uses supportive, non-judgemental community base peer led teaching to channel these challenging youngsters to focus their frustration into the creative arts. The result is often raw and challenging.
