StolenSpace Gallery presents ‘Emerge’, a solo exhibition by the contemporary Spanish artist, Sabek. This exhibition proposes us to emerge, to step outside of where we are immersed, and observe our relationship with nature.
About
In this new exhibition of paintings and sculptures, Sabek invites us to observe how his artwork emerges the dichotomy between predators and prey, of power and strength, energy and dynamism, while always looking for a perfect symbiosis. The essence of Sabek’s work ows onto the canvas, and is then isolated to synthesize a relationhip between material and immaterial, gurative and abstract.
The adored animals that inspire Sabek’s work are often portrayed as stylised, black gures, with a strongfeeling of respect. Their bold forms contrast against the colourful, abstract shapes that are entwined within the composition, to further convey their noble and powerful place between humans and nature.
Sabek began his artistic career in Madrid, developing his style on the streets, and experimenting with dierent techniques on the walls of abandoned buildings. He began to produce more graphic work, with natural and organic elements to it. His unmistakable style is dened by nature, animals, curved lines and rounded forms, all inspired by natural origins but transformed to a clean, contemporary stye.
“From my point of view, the relationship I establish between humans and nature is a fundamental part of my work. Through animal interpretation I create and try to highlight the relationship we have with them, and that we are losing so fast.” - Sabek
