About

In the Tasarim Bakkali Artist Residency Petra Korte will take material and imaginations out of the next environment, according to her concept, and change it to a new declarative.

Since this region is one of the most important location in history, where occident and orient are meeting and a melting pot of many cultures are originated by all these influences, it will be one focus of the art work shown in the exhibition.

Adding to this the nature and imaginations of the landscape together with literature notes will be in the focus as well.

In a whole the combination of culture and nature, which unique city like Istanbul with its lively history and present character created, will be included in the art work.

Every object and picture will be wrapped in the salt crystall shell, like in the special food Gözleme, where spinach and cheese in wrapped in a kind of dough shell.

Biennale Concept

In times of the climate changes and according to the topic of the Istanbul Biennale the '7. Continent' the artist shows objects straight out of the sea around Istanbul, which had been just stranded again at the shore. - Every object shows the signs of 'it's travelling in the water' and is pointing out the significant fact, that it becomes a new unique, where nature elements are hard to seperate from the garbage ones and which is accented by the salt crystallization. - This kind of 'man made symbiosis' is congruent to the human being body, which is daily taking in the plastic particles, without even recognizing even to the average amount f one credit card in one week for everybody!

The literature signs of this exhibition can be also understood as the indication to the sustainability of our resources, since paper is still mainly consisting by nature like wood. - In times of the e-book a lot of books are just thrown away- sometimes from one trader just thousands – instead of recycling them to a new articles or just send them out, where they are still needed and being honored.

The importance of our own actions to stop the extraction of the nature and creating new values and attitude to our environment to protect the earth one scale object also invites the visitor by interaction to put on it their own ideas.

The Biennale topic is shown in this exhibiton in both ways: pointing out the problems and in the same time inviting for solutions.
