About

Venue: Artspace @ Hillcrest”¨SPACE@HILLCREST Primary School, Cower Street, Chapeltown Leeds LS7 4DR”¨ The exhibition is a showcase of artworks created by Becky May Croft, utilising both figurative and abstract painting and sculptural work. The different works examine culture's effect on the individual psyche and how cultural doctrine not only psychologically effects the individual but also physically effects their very actions and behaviours, altering how the individual views his/her body and existence. The works à‚ include ceramic sculpture, Plaster-relief paintings inspired by the human anatomy and other two-dimensional works focusing on issues surrounding an individual's autonomy and ownership over themselves and their body, and how they interact with the surrounding space which the body operates within.”¨Influences include Francis Bacon, Alberto Giacometti, Kiki Smith, Marlene Dumas. Having graduated from her fine art degree in 2010 at Bradford college of art, with a view to later going into the field of art therapy Becky is currently studying for an MA in visual arts and exhibiting in Yorkshire and London, also doing individual commission work.
