Surface Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition for our eighth East Midlands Graduate Project, EM16: Pulse.

The East Midlands Graduate Project supports Fine Art graduates across the region as they make the transition from university to the professional art world. Pulse is the culmination of a four-week residency undertaken in Surface Gallery’s top-floor Project Space. Eight of the region’s most exciting new graduate artists have been commissioned to produce original work for the exhibition. Each of the artists have built on their successes at university and developed their practice and creativity to produce pieces to attract and engage the viewer.

Pulse is a testament to the creativity of the artists. The work on display resonates with the eclectic nature of the artists involved: sculpture, installation, drawing and painting, along with sound art and digital printing. From the intricate, aroma-infused minimalist drawings of Ellysia Bugler to the dissonant soundscapes of Miriam Bean, and the huge shaggy creatures that inhabit the dystopian landscapes of Tayler Fisher’s imagination, Pulse promises something for everyone. Experience what some of the region’s brightest new artists have to offer.

EM16: Pulse opens in the Main Gallery, in conjunction with Transpattern, a solo exhibition by Hungarian Artist Miklós Ladányi-Tóth. As always, there will be a donations bar with ales from the local Springhead Brewery.

Artist Talk and Tour: Saturday 12th November, 2pm

Workshops: Throughout the period of the residency each of the artists will be running a free workshop. For details and to book a place follow the link: Workshops
