A fragmentary response to The Sir John Soane’s Museum by MA Sculpture students at the Royal College of Art. This project is lead by Tutor Ben Judd.

About

ELSEWHERE is an immersive exploration of the concept of deconstruction through the lens of contemporary sculpture. This exhibition is the culmination of a one-week residency undertaken by students of the MA in Sculpture program of the Royal College of Art, hosted at the renowned Sir John Soane’s Museum.

As part of the residency, the participating artists have drawn inspiration from the eclectic collections housed within the Sir John Soane’s Museum. Throughout the exhibition, visitors will encounter subtle references to the museum’s artworks, its space spreader in its architectural sculptural form in the play of dark and light, creating a dialogue between past and present, fragmentation and wholeness.

Each artist brings a unique perspective to the theme, exploring its various manifestations through a diverse range of materials, techniques and forms. Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to engage with and within the artworks on multiple levels, with interactive installations inviting tactile exploration and multimedia presentations providing more profound insights into the creative process. Additionally, a series of artist talks and performances will offer audiences the chance to interact directly with the creators behind the works on display.

In conclusion, ELSEWHERE invites viewers on a journey through the fractured landscapes of contemporary sculpture, where broken forms give rise to new narratives and perspectives.
