Recent work (paintings and drawings) by Els Ceulemans, for the first time in Brussels.
About
Le Neuf Gallery is proud to present Els Ceulemans for the first time in Brussels and with her most recent work consisting of paintings, some drawings and an installation which has been revealed for the first time in Watou in 2019.
You will appreciate how Els manages to capture you with metaphors where the aesthetics and figurative recognition are rapidly followed by a feeling of confusion or uneasiness. Every sense of human logic gets lost in strange combinations of animals behaving like humans, humans missing body parts and unusual behaviours which drive the audience in a reflection on human and societal behaviour. Somewhat distressed and uncomfortable, you can't help looking further and deepening your thoughts.
Els’ very particular poetic and effective talent is to talk about pain, conflict, violence but with a tremendous sense of humour, resulting in a surrealistic aftertaste of tenderness and compassion.
