Talk - I Made Sutama: The Spiritual Journey of Ogoh-ogoh in Balinese Culture

A one of-a-kind opportunity to discover the fascinating techniques and traditions behind the Balinese Ogoh-Ogoh Masks and puppets. Ogoh-ogoh is made by communities to celebrate Balinese new year, with parade, dance and Balinese traditional music.

Practical Workshop Masterclass: Puppet and Mask Making with Alison Duddle
1 November, 9.30am – 5.00pm, Cobden Works, £75
Alison Duddle is a highly reputed puppet maker, well known for her work as Artistic Director of Horse + Bamboo Theatre. In this practical workshop Alison will be sharing some of the key techniques, including creating clay sculpting for papier mache, and basic wood carving. Get inspired by real life examples of her puppets and explore construction methods, jointing and controls. This workshop is suitable for advanced creative practitioners.

Practical Workshop Masterclass: Backpacks and rigging large costumes with Rampage Mas Band
11 November, 9.30pm – 5.00pm, Cobden Works, £45
Internationally respected and award-winning Rampage Mas Band have taken their costumes to carnivals and parades all over the world. In this practical workshop, Steven shares techniques for large-scale carnival costumes, showing you how to rig large costumes. Make and take home a small wire back pack of your own. The workshop will be valuable to artists already working in carnival arts or those interested in exploring a new genre.

Talk: Rampage Mas Band and their large scale carnival costumes

Get inspired by Steven Hoyte from Rampage Mas Band, as he talks about their award-winning costumes and history of the internationally respected company. Hoyte sees carnival and celebratory arts as the key to enhancing community spirit for all abilities, ages and backgrounds.

Practical Workshop Masterclass: Mobile Lighting and Power for parade structures with Rob Hill
22 November, 6.00pm – 9.00pm, Cobden Works, £45 
Rob Hill shares what he's learned from 25 years' experience lighting up theatre, community and outdoor arts. We look at simple, low cost, creative solutions to lighting sculptural images, lanterns, costumes and environments outdoors and in portable situations. This masterclass is designed for North West artists and creatives, especially those interested in outdoor arts practice.
