About
ELEGY (1)
5th May 26th May 2013â¨Private View: 4th May 2013 6 - 9pm
Elegia Projects is proud to present Elegy (1), a group exhibition of international artists at Yinka Shonibare MBE's Guest Projects.
The concept of death is one that, rightly, often frightens and discomforts us. Is it possible to utilise the concept of death in more positive ways? Elegia Projects hopes to address this question.
The participating artists' works explore the links between art and death from a psychosocial perspective. Taking the concept of death beyond that of physical demise, the artists face death on our behalf. Through their work death becomes an impetus not only to grieve, but also to celebrate and reconsider that which we have lost. We are also invited to consider what we may gain when certain aspects of reality or our lives and culture die. A series of events and talks accompanying the visual art exhibition will enable visitors to further explore the idea of death as an impetus, a springboard, and cultural phenomena.
