In this exhibition, Juan Duque (CO 1974), Nicolás Lamas (PE 1980) and Alexandra Colmenares (PE 1986) pose a series of questionings which come from different artistic processes but combine common features.

About

In 'Ejercicios topológicos', the three artists propose a number of pieces where gestures and speculative actions have been key in generating questions without definite answers, thus building a series of ideas which continually transform and contaminate each other, putting their independence in perspective. Each artist looks at his and her own horizon, using their individual interests as a starting point, but finding a state of continuous dialogue in the context of the gallery, thus transforming their initial proposals through the intertwining of objects, images, bodies and languages. By co-existing in a new space they establish a complex system of relationships which reconfigure their own nature in order to establish a series of topological exercises which operate not only independently but as an organised whole.

There is a spatial and temporal condition that is present in most of the featured artworks and that is important to note. Whether through drawing, photo, sculpture or performance, there are different dynamics present on different levels. It is this condition of fluency, extension and transformative continuity - typical for topology- which connects the works. In this way, multiple questions seem to stress the qualities we attach to the objects that surround us as well as to the possibilities for transformation and continuity in an unpredictable and changeable environment. In the same way, there is a clear interest in directing our attention towards the hidden place that arises between bodies and objects, that interstitial dimension inhabited by gestures and the contact between things. That meeting point between heterogeneous elements that transform their very structure through strokes and printed marks that manifest that bodies and things meet and need each other in order to exist in other states and levels of understanding.
