About

Eduardo Sourrouille, ES, presents in Espacio Marzana the project titled "Shells" (2015-17), a selection of photographic self - portraits where the artist is incarnated in a "doublefalsa"
image. From these double images, the author reflects on the ways of building identity in contemporary society. In this line of work, in which Sourrouille has constructed a corpus of work since the nineties, he raises a new inquiry into the notion of mascara and masquerade. Notions such as concealment, grotesque, myth, phobia, fantasy, re-pulses and spells are found and countered by generating a space of "disassembly" of the immutable values of the masculine. These structures hegemonic ones that overlap and condition the individual are put into crisis giving rise to new roles and clichés.  Cultural constructs, shells or protective layers like the artist's image, power, masculinities, maturity ... Become phantasmagoria that question and reaffirm new states and scenes.
