Ed Fornieles. Der Geist: Flesh Feast

The work of London- and Los Angeles-based artist Ed Fornieles often employs the vast amounts of personal and public data that feeds our insatiable attention economy. Der Geist: Flesh Feast – Fornieles’s first solo exhibition in Berlin – is a journey into the culture of self-management that views the body and mind as a system to be understood, leveraged, and controlled. The show will chart Fornieles’s own experiences on one of these self-management diets, chronicling not only its personal effects, but also the hidden anxieties and contradictions these programs often foster and which nonetheless run parallel to their overt message of positivity.

The show includes an installation of sculptures, animation, banners, and a film that maps out the wider landscape of these constrained lifestyles. During the exhibition, starter diet packs will be offered to anyone interested in beginning their own journey into the world of self-management diets. The contents of each pack will be broken down into what each one has to offer, not only in a dietary sense, but also the narratives and ideological baggage that come with them. Ultimately each package asks the question “Who do you want to be”?
