About

Kerry John Andrews' installation consists of recordings of people in London speaking about important places in their lives. The voice extends a person beyond the body. It is corporeal but not physical. We experience it spatially. If we isolate a voice, our perception of the person goes from a fixed solid object in, and separate from, the surrounding space to him being a part of the space. In listening to Andrews' work, we literally inhabit the same space as the speaker. This spatial relationship is overlaid with a virtual one of the speaker discussing the spaces he most identifies with, and a factual one of background sound. It is these different levels that Andrews' work sets to explore.
