'Ebb and Flow'
Art exhibition by Charlotte Ellis and Claire Belcher
Inspired by the ever-changing light on the water and the wildlife of the Exe-estuary. Together, these two artists cross the land-water divide with paintings, prints and pyrography.
About
Charlotte Ellis and Claire Belcher connected in the waters of the Exe, several years ago. Finding inspiration and solace from the flow of life on the river, their early morning and moonlit swims give them an immersive pathway for expression through their art.
Charlotte says, 'As I swim, I embrace the nature around me. In my paintings and lino prints, I try to recreate the sense of peace I feel when swimming. As I work, in my head I am always in or near water.'
Claire explains, ' As a pyrography artist, I aim to create unique pieces inspired by the natural beauty of wood, that carries a flow of water. I am a professor of Fire Ecology at the University of Exeter, so perhaps it is no surprise that I also use fire in my creative practice.'
Come and meet Charlotte and Claire in Seaglass Gallery, in the estuary village of Lympstone, to see their work and talk more about the process behind their practice. There will be demonstrations and lino print workshops during the event. All works are available to purchase.
