About

In this solo show, Rebecca Lennon (b.1981, Manchester) uses and reuses imagery - the bullet vibrator as a stand-in for the body, financial envelope patterns as backdrops, and the intricate hand movements of a cleaning ritual. Together with the appropriation of cultural, religious and political symbolism, here she presents a desertscape in the structure of the brain.

"Bang Bang, My Baby Shot Me Down"

A large handwoven Oaxacan rug steers the viewer through the over-the-top emotion of song titles all featuring the word Baby; dealing with love, then rejection, violence and finally nothing. While the history of the film loop and its reference to the wave, the structure of looping information in the disordered brain, the origins of the Zero, Soap and the word baby as an object of pure love, are weaved together into a video narrative, culminating in Lennon’s own purification via bankruptcy as a shamanic ritual.
