Light Night: Art Walk, commissioned German beer and celebration. Date: Friday 9 October 2009 Times and venues: 3-3.30pm ESA Patrick Studios; 3.45-4.15pm St John's Church; 4.30-5pm 42 New Briggate FREE ADMISSION - ALL WELCOME Join ESA and VIP guests from Dortmund and Leeds on a Light Night Art Walk. The walk will start at Patrick Studios with specially brewed German beer by Leeds' own micro brewer, Gordon McKiernan, and an opportunity to view the new exhibition, Flows of Capital: Bodies & Borders in ESA's Project Space. We will then visit the St. John's Church to see the Dortmunder Gruppe's Exposition accompanied by live accordion music and an introduction by Burkhard Rinsche (Dortmund Kulturburo). Then on to 42 New Briggate to view the installation, ENTER THE AMAZING VIRGINIA SHOPEL, and to meet artists Gudrun Kattke and Silvia Liebig. FREE ADMISSION This group exhibition is part of a Leeds/Dortmund exchange and follows ESA's successful visit in February 2009 to Dortmund where we installed Salon Doppleganger 09. The group will show a selection of works by its current members in collaboration with Something Visual at St John's Church. To round off Light Night in style, we invite you to our Light Night celebration at Patrick Studios, where you can enjoy a hot sausage or two glugged down with Gordon McKiernan's home brewed beer with a German twist created in honour of our Dortmund friends. At the same time you will have a chance to see our new exhibition Flows of Capital: Bodies & Borders in the Project Space. ENTER THE AMAZING VIRGINIA SHOPEL: Education Programme exhibition Date: Saturday, 10th October 2009 Times 11 am - 1 pm Venue: The Light, The Headrow, Leeds LS1 8TL Juliana Bellante's work combines painting, drawing, sculpture, light and sound and uses her practice to prompt questions and create dialogue and critical discussion. Juliana has been commissioned by ESA and Leeds City Council ('artforms' Music + Arts Initiative of Education Leeds and International Relations) to run the education programme with Allerton Grange and Benton Park high schools in response to the project ENTER THE AMAZING VIRGINIA SHOPEL (ESA's new commission by Dortmund-based artists Gudrun Kattke and Silvia Liebig.) Over 30 young people will spend two days with Juliana responding to the work by Kattke and Liebig exploring issues of re-unification and working across borders.
