As part of their ongoing project EachTeach, Campbell Works will invert the format at the Tree House Gallery in Regents Park on Thurs 13th from 12 -4 pm
We propose to encourage and facilitate participants and members of the public to teach the artists throughout the day.
Each Teach is a project developed by Neil Taylor & Harriet Murray that creates a flexible framework allowing any number of different trajectories from one key principle.
It takes the premise that many artists are passionate and knowledgeable about subjects outside their practice that may inform, but could equally be completely tangential to their work.
By intersecting these un/related interests to the artists practice, and placing them within a live 'teaching' situation, the participating artists are given the possibility to maneuver completely outside their 'normal' practice, shifting or jolting their perspectives and operating frameworks.
For the Tree House Gallery, we propose to turn the whole framework on its head and and ask members of the public to teach the artists something. Through a series of random encounters with participants and members of the public, we will document these short lessons by creating a short film.
The artists act as facilitators to the audiences collective body of knowledge. The hypothesis that the individual in front of the black or white board is in authority can often be quite misguided, but their role in bringing the audience together is paramount and of significance.
The Tree House Gallery is a project located in an amazing collection of temporary tree houses on the north bank of the boating lake in Regents Park for the summer of 2009.
