About
This exhibition brings together the works of Ana Čvorović, Ursula Dimitriou, Dejan Mrdja, Lida Stamou, Mariana Bisti, and Un-war Space Lab (Armina Pilav, Karla Crnčević, Servet Cihangiroğlu) who divide their time between the United Kingdom and the Balkans, a volatile and picturesque region with an ambiguous global reputation. This provided the artists with a shared multicultural background and similar world views, which they juxtapose with their personal and unique experiences.
Subjects they explore through their works include migration, war, displacement, belonging, East-West relations, socio-political identities, body politics, death, out-of-body experiences, nostalgia and utopia.
Works share a similar output – spatial, immersive, durational, and often participatory. Their intention is to dislocate audiences from the usual points of observation. They offer alternative perspectives, reveal unheard narratives, alter perception, open up different states of being and mix abstraction with easily recognisable forms.
Drawing from a particular socio and geo-political vantage point, their works are acutely relevant in the current historic moment of intensification of international relations, reduction of social freedoms and waves of global population movements.
