Monya Rowe Gallery is excited to announce the summer group exhibition titled Duality: The Real and the Perceived featuring Polina Barskaya, J. Carino, Emily Marie Miller Coan, Gina M. Contreras, Mary DeVincentis, Angela Dufresne, Sophia Heymans, Mala Iqbal, Aubrey Levinthal, Erin Milez, Anna Ortiz, Bryan Rogers, Anastasiya Tarasenko and Melody Tuttle. The opening reception for the artists will be held on Thursday, June 15, 6-8 PM. Please note the gallery recently relocated to a new larger suite (#304) at the same address.

This exhibition brings together a group of artists who share an inherent interest in personal narratives that depict elements of duality. Drawing attention to nuance and abstract interpretation raises questions about how the self, or a place, is perceived. Duality may manifest in uncomfortable imagery, complicity, or ambiguity. Some of the works in the exhibition are activated by the presence of an interior life in competition with the seen self. Other works embody some sort of quiet contradiction or allude to opposing truths. Duality is an intrinsic quality of life found in nature, place and humanity.
