We would like to warmly invite you to the private view and exhibition of ‘DreaMFActory 2019’, an interim exhibition of work by students from the Master of Fine Art programme at Oxford Brookes University.

Private View: Thursday 12 December, from 5.30 - 7.30pm.

The exhibition continues from Friday 13 December to Thursday 9 January.

After just one semester of study, this show provides an opportunity for our postgraduate students to test out a range of differing works and projects, some completed and some in progress.

Participants in DreaMFActory 2019 come from varying disciplinary and cultural backgrounds. Their work demonstrates critical thinking around wide ranging concepts and interests. They engage deeply with contemporary life and address audiences through many differing forms. These include expanded concepts of making that question barriers that lie between media disciplines—between image, object and experience. The elusive qualities of capturing moments in time, space and materiality are variously explored.

In this exhibition ‘lines’ are omnipresent. Lifelines that retell the story of our bodily experiences, strings that bind us—or unravel like DNA. Wires that wrap around carbonised remains of animate and inanimate objects. Disused railways, held in overgrown abeyance, awaiting a new life contested by the communities they once served. Images of uninhabited places, terrains that are both familiar and yet strange are presented to us by means of methods that pre-date digital technologies.

Conversely, impossible objects and landscapes are conjured through breaking the rules of technologies such as VR and photogrammetry. Elsewhere, topographies are physically reduced creating skeletal journeys made from maps—folded in on themselves—providing an orderly disorder.

Through this research-based artwork, these artists leave audiences left to ponder life’s existential questions. What are we made from? Where have we come from? And, where are we going?
