In these works we see a glimpse of the varied terrain that still awaits artists working with representational imagery today.
Some are imaginative observers, capturing and collating moments of the everyday, expressing their particular, subjective experience of reality.
Others work directly from their imagination, surfacing half-seen dreams, fragments of memory, overheard anecdotes and deeply cherished stories.
From both angles, the observed and the imagined – the outer and inner worlds – are drawn together. So too are these emerging artists, for though they may differ in their respective approaches, subjects and interests, there is a line that connects them all, which ends at the point of a pencil.
