This workshop will take place over four evenings and will enable you to learn a variety of skills necessary for working with steel rods. Using these skills you will create three-dimensional drawings and approach new ways of conceiving sculpture.

About

We will explore the space, the volume and different types of lines from a new perspective, considering the light, shadows and interstices between the lines as part of the work as well.

The course will cover the techniques of bending, cutting, grinding, rolling & shaping steel rods.  It will cover MIG welding.

Weeks 1 & 2:  Initial introduction to drawing in the space including the volume, the lin, modulating the line in the space. Light, projections and shadows will also be discussed as well as an introduction to the workshop practice and possibilities of materials. Students will be encouraged to create a design with wire.

Weeks 3 & 4: Students will work on individual sculpture/s or projects and research new possibilities and processes and will be shown finishing processes.

Small group numbers allows 1:1 tuition for participants on this course.

No sculpture experience is required.

This course is suitable for beginners or those who have already attended a previous Drawing with Steel course.

Please bring a sketchbook.

Safe workshop practice will be covered.

It is essential to wear old clothes and strong footwear.

Tutor: Silvina Soria. Silvina obtained her degree as Sculpture Professor at The Fine Arts School Prilidiano Pueyrredon in 2002. After specializing in welding and blacksmithing she obtained a master in Contemporary Sculpture at Ernesto de la Carcova Postgraduated School, both in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
