About
Program Summary:
This study programme covers the fields of traditional painting and drawing.
The aim of this course is to learn and develop the basic skills of drawing and painting. Students will learn how to take real-life objects or imaginary images and put them onto paper, how to develop the techniques necessary to create illustrations and paintings. The students will also learn how to develop their abilities to interpret their own ideas visually.
The students will be educated in a variety of techniques, including traditional drawing, figure drawing, and painting.
For this course no prior knowledge is needed!
In this course, you will develop an understanding of the basic visual language of illustration, exploring drawing, composition, framing, and colour theory. You will learn the basic principles of human figure drawing while working from a live model. You'll be introduced to watercolour and acrylic. Sketchbooks are an important tool here for developing your creative thinking, visual research and idea development.
After this you will further develop your practical skills, extending your understanding of illustration and will begin to define your own style. You’ll get a deeper insight into human anatomy, will learn how work with light and shadow, recognise different levels of tone, and replicate them in both monotone and colour. You'll learn colour techniques used by professional illustrators to create elaborate images.
At ESDIP's headquarters in Berlin (which doubles as a coworking space and an art school), students will have the opportunity to work in an engaging location, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere surrounded by professional creatives and start-ups.
Students will also have the chance to attend any creative events happening within the duration of the course.
