This course combines drawing and etching. There will be an introduction to materials used in the processes of drawing and etching: papers, inks, tools, metals and their properties and function. Reference will be made to artists of both the past and present who have used print as part of their practice. Drawing is of paramount importance: students will draw both out and about in London and in various venues including The National Gallery and the British Museum, eventually drawing on site directly onto prepared plates. These will later be printed in the School’s print room. A visit will be made to a print studio dealing in contemporary printmaking.
