Crane Kalman Brighton and Motel Collection, in association with 123 London and Spectrum present Dougie Wallace's latest, and ongoing, project, "Soho Unlocked", which looks at the re-emergence of London life following the lifting of restrictions in the capital in July 2021.
About
To accommodate socialising under new conditions, severalstreets were closed off to
traffic. This activated the area like never before. Against the backdrop of social distancing rules in venues and streets patrolled by ‘covid marshals’, a new defiant spirit emerged. Raucous hysteria and freedom from constraints are on the menu. The atmosphere became reminiscent of Soho from the 1990s, which was conducive to the flourishing of underground subcultures and causes that would go on to have a huge mainstream influence.
What used to be adult cinemas and sex shops have since turned into private member's clubs, theatres and bars; a vibrant mix of society descends on one of London's most diverse and culturally rich neighbourhoods.
