At the end of the month members of therapeutic art community Studio Upstairs will be involved in an exciting new collaboration.
The project will take place within the crumbling walls of a derelict house in the heart of the Peckham community. We will showcase a variety of site-specific work under the title Double Helix after the chemical structure DNA appears in, created when molecules bond resulting in something extraordinary.
Together Studio Upstairs members, visual artists, drama students and established artist Susan Aldworth will bring the space alive with sculpture, drawing, drama, film and painting. All the work is based on the incredible space provided by Maverick Projects called Safehouse 2. Artists have looked at a variety of elements to develop their work including the history of Peckham, the previous owners of the space, and others at the aesthetic features.
Creative projects and exhibitions are always a struggle to fund, this one has been made possible through funds contributed by Wimbledon College of art graduates (2012) and a number of smaller kind donations through our fundraising page.
Special thanks to Elle Sinclair curator and organiser and to Natalie Keville, who designed the flyers, for donating their time and energy to this project (details below).
We still need to reach our target in order to print flyers and pay for installation materials. Donations will not close until April if you would like to support Studio Upstairs and their members in future projects. The link to the page is below.
We cannot wait to see you at the show!
