Guest curator & sculptor Brigitte Jurack, introduces 16 artists from London and the North West of England, Berlin and Florence at a hidden gem in SE London - the Lewisham Arthouse Project Space.
About
The exhibition and introduction will refer to works that refer to different interpretations of the 'Doppelganger' effect.
Artists: Alan Dunn & Peter Suchin, Mark Fairnington, Charles Gray, Charlie Godet Thomas, Susie Green, Sharon Hall, Brigitte Jurack, Bernadette O’Toole, Catherine Parsonage, James Quin, Alma Tischler Wood, Roxy Walsh, Flora Whiteley and Godbold & Wood.
Where some of these artists have created their own manifestation of a 'double', others work with reflected symmetries, shadows or repeats invoking layers of the uncanny that fired the romantic imagination (Baudelaire, Dostoyevsky, Flaubert and Wilde) to ask whether, by duplicating the self, a co-equivalent of the human soul might emerge.
Brigitte Jurack (the curator) is Head of Sculpture/Time Based Arts at Manchester School of Art and founder of Alternator Studio.
