Joe Shef­tel Gallery is pleased to present ECHO IMPLANT, Donna Huanca’s first solo exhi­bi­tion with the gallery. An open­ing recep­tion and the first per­for­mance will be held on Thurs­day, Feb­ru­ary 5, from 7-9pm. The exhi­bi­tion will be on view through March 8, 2015.

For ECHO IMPLANT, Donna Huanca cre­ates an immer­sive instal­la­tion fea­tur­ing new paint­ings and sculp­tures that will be acti­vated by sched­uled per­for­mances in the exhi­bi­tion space.

Donna Huanca’s instal­la­tions fuse tac­tile mate­ri­als, such as cloth­ing and ephemera to cre­ate per­for­ma­tive archi­tec­tural col­lages. Work­ing pri­mar­ily with decon­structed cloth­ing, dipped in paint and solid­i­fied, her sculp­tural ges­tures pause a once-fluid life of the gar­ment. Dur­ing Huanca’s dura­tional per­for­mances the works inter­act with the vul­ner­a­bil­ity of live mod­els, cam­ou­flaged and infused into the sculp­ture, giv­ing life to oth­er­wise sta­tic art­works.
