Don Joint: Waldameer

FRED is pleased to present Waldameer, an exhibition of new work by American artist Don Joint. Joint has created a group of collage works that conflate the nostalgic and the exotic. Drawing from childhood recollections of a quaint amusement park in rural Pennsylvania, Joint conjures up a dream-like setting of roller coaster thrills and games of skill. In the midst of this carnivalesque landscape, beautiful women culled from Ukiyo-E woodcut prints make dramatic appearances, frightened, bewildered, sometimes wistful in the mists of memory. Gorgeously attired, with elaborately coiffed hair, these feminine figures of sophisticated pleasures are wanderers in fictional worlds of innocent fun, along with mummies, rabbits and other strange beings.
