Solo exhibition of new work by British artist Dominic Watson and launch of new limited edition 7" single record
About
NEW STUDIO is delighted to present Specific Emotions, a new video and sculptural installation by British artist Dominic Watson.
Since his debut in New Contemporaries in 2013 Watson has continued to explore his fascination with the role culture plays on our psyche. Colliding Renaissance frescoes with footballers, and rock anthems with Modernist sculptures, his surreal and humorous videos reveal how we are surrounded by imitations of reality that stir our emotions and motivate our desires.
For this solo exhibition Watson turns his attention to the conventional pop song, a symbol of clichéd sentiment. Specific Emotions is the title of a song and accompanying music video, written and performed by the artist and filmed on site at NEW STUDIO. The exhibition invites you to enter the video set and to step onto the stage, where amongst props and costume, the surreal pop video projects out, depicting the artist in a comedic serenade with his alter ego.
To mark the occasion of the exhibition, the artist and NEW STUDIO have released Specific Emotions as a limited edition 7” single vinyl record complete with signed cover artwork, available for sale from the gallery. The proceeds support the artist’s future work and the gallery’s ongoing programme.
