For this ongoing series of paintings, Marks uses fragments of images depicting scenes of bondage and sado masochism freely available on the internet. These
fragments are magnified to reveal their individual colour pixelation which Marks then paints. In this way he removes their pornographic context, producing abstract
compositions. When observed though, these paintings appear suggestive of an image concealed or disguised. The implication of a subject remains. If then view
through a camera phone, the resolution is changed revealing the paintings photographic form, seemingly restoring some of the original context. No longer are they
just grids of colour. This transformative process changes them into highly charged works.
