About

Dogs Swans and Flange Zoo

Dogs. Mark Bell is an artist, writer, and tutor who has exhibited in the UK, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, China, and the USA. In this exhibition, the work focuses on humans’ closest social partners as contemporary metaphorical images. Dogs are a recurring theme in his work, and often represent a mirror for urban, social, environmental, and political thoughts. One piece is a large work in oil paints and inks on aluminium, five  pieces are manipulated and digitised works ink-jet printed onto etching paper, then developed further with various media.

Swans. Nina Mankin is a mixed-media London based artist who has exhibited in New York, Berlin, Italy, Hungary, Ireland, and all over the UK. Her work delves deep into the magic and uncanny realm of fairy tales, psychology, and dreams; within the medium of sculptural installation, print and collage. Collecting found objects and images from the past is at the core of her practice. Fascinated by the mystery of these displaced objects and their historical resonances, they became catalysts for intricately woven visual stories. For this exhibition she has created a collection of giclee prints; digital collages which have been worked into with acrylic paint and pencil. She uses swans as a metaphor for love, innocence, connection, beauty, and balance, together with their discordant shadow opposites. These themes are explored in association to the environment, and within the context of relationships and the human psyche; in our shared natural, or imaginary realms.

Flange Zoo are interdimensional beings, mythical animals from beyond who first manifested on this tiny blue sphere on 1st April 2012. They are currently a Tiger (Tiger Gnome) and a Dragon (Lotan the Destroyer), but for many years they were also a Fox-witch called Kitsune. They have appeared throughout London and the South-East, but one-day will reach Antarctica - www.flangezoo.bandcamp.com- Their current human emissaries are: Calum F Kerr, an artist, musician and performer of oddities who has appeared in many UK exhibitions including at the ICA and Tate, and in Bulgaria, France, Germany, Japan, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the USA.  www.vimeo.com/calumfkerr- Phillip Raymond Goodman is an artist, musician, performer, writer and filmmaker based in London, as well as Flange Zoo he has worked with numerous other musical and artistic projects such as 'The A band', 'Lords of the Hedonist', 'Tulpa Zone Nightmares', 'Grimmates' and 'Black Iron Kisses'.
