Duality torments us insistently. Soul, consciousness, spirit, portrait and memory, our ontological and virtual ‘other’, everything seems to detach from the physical body. In this exhibition, composed by photographs, installation and video-installations, Claudio Zulian reflects on the notion of "double", where the subject and its image overlap.

According to the artists: “In our current world of virtuality and technology, something insists: opaque, indecipherable, not reducible to calculation but always present. We call it body. Body in the language of computers. Mortal meat, sensitive meat, meat that thinks. Without purity and without truth. It is also going through virtuality and technology: I cannot now think of my body without carrying a stuck image, almost indistinguishable from the flesh”.

This image and the constant sensation of splitting and duplication, leaves us in a strange state of contemplation, between the intriguing imagination of the future and the deep anxiety.

Bio

Born in Italy (Capodarsego, Padua) in 1970, he now lives in Barcelona (Spain). He has a PhD in Esthetic, Science and technology of Arts, by the University of Paris-Saint Denis (France). His work includes cinema, television, visual arts, music, theatre and literature. A big part of his work is centered in the sensibility towards social and political matters, and the search of epecificity in each platform he works on. He has taught workshops and conferences in different universities and cultural and artistic centers and writes regularly in magazines and newspapers.

La dualidad nos persigue de manera insistente. Alma, conciencia, espíritu, retrato y recuerdo, nuestro ‘otro’ ontológico y virtual, todo parece despegarse del cuerpo, de la unidad física y mortal. En esta exposición, donde se presentan fotografías, instalación y video instalaciones, Claudio Zulian reflexiona sobre la noción de "doble", donde el sujeto y su imagen se solapan.

Según el mismo artista: “En nuestro mundo actual tramado de virtualidad y tecnología, algo insiste: opaco, indescifrable, no reducible al cálculo pero siempre presente. Lo llamamos cuerpo. Body en la lengua de los ordenadores. Carne mortal, carne sensible, carne que piensa. Sin pureza y sin verdad. Él también atravesado de virtualidad y tecnología: no puedo ahora pensar en mi cuerpo sin que lleve una imagen pegada, casi indistinguible de la carne”.

Esta imagen y sensación constante de desdoblamiento nos deja en un extraño estado de contemplación, entre la apasionante imaginación de futuro y la profunda inquietud.

BIO

Nació en Italia (Campodarsego, Padua) en 1972 y actualmente reside en Barcelona, España. Es doctor en Estética, Ciencia y Tecnología de les Artes, por la Universidad de París-Saint Denis (Francia). Autor de una obra multiforme que abarca el cine, la televisión, las artes visuales, la música, el teatro, la literatura. Una parte importante de su obra se caracteriza por una sensibilidad hacia lo social y político, y la búsqueda de la especificidad en cada medio en que trabaja. Ha impartido cursos, talleres y conferencias en diferentes universidades y centros culturales y artísticos y escribe regularmente en revistas y periódicos.
