People who have saved this event:

DIY Microscopy is a fun interdisciplinary workshop which encourages children to think about our throwaway culture in relation to food waste.

Charlotte Eliza King and Charlotte Wilson are two photographic artists who create aesthetically interesting imagery from everyday objects and camera-less photographic techniques. They will work with your children to take a closer look at the things we throw away from our homes and the consequences of doing so.

The workshop will focus on the creation of pictures framed within microscope slides and acetate sheets, using materials and food which would otherwise be thrown away. The children will have the chance to explore their creations in closer detail using microscopes and digital scanning. As well as exploring, playing and creating, the session will allow time for educational games based around the mass of food waste we create and the damage this does to our environment. Within this, there will be a particular focus on the local Brighton and Hove area.

The process will allow children to think about the waste we create, in an alternative way and promote the relationship between art and science. We encourage you to bring food waste from your homes, which can be used in the workshop.

Aprons and gloves, masks and goggles will be provided as well.

This workshop is aimed at young curious children aged 6-14. But adults are welcome too! So feel free to book yourself and your child to join in the workshop together, or if you prefer drop your kids with us while you grab a coffee in the restaurant. For more information please contact about the class!

Go back to Kollektiv Gallery to see the rest of the workshops and sign up for more classes!
