AboutElaine Thomas is a fine artist who has spent much of her life in Higher Education. She recently retired as Vice-Chancellor of the University for the Creative Arts and returned full-time to her creative practice.
This exhibition shows new paintings, in watercolour and acrylic on various surfaces. The paintings are figurative and strongly influenced by sources including Romanesque Frescoes, Indian Carvings and Greek and Roman Sculpture.
She works from the imagination, creating layers and surfaces, searching for and discovering images within, which are then both obscured and revealed. The paintings have strong narrative elements, implying both actions and behaviours.
